Job description

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of billing in a professional office

The Billing Specialist will accurately and efficiently generate, edit, prepare and execute monthly prebills and subsequent invoices and appeals for submission to clients. Excellent communication and a high level of professional service to clients, management, attorneys and other staff are required in order to successfully administer monthly billing and resolve inquiries and issues. The Billing Specialist must demonstrate expertise in all facets of the electronic billing function, particularly for insurance defense matters, which may include split and other complex billing arrangements.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Enter time and expenses into Timeslips
  • Prepare a legal invoice; edit and finalize a legal invoice
  • eBilling with Legal Solutions Suite, Bottom Line/Legal X, Legal Exchange, Serengetti, CounselLink, Collaborati and Tymetrix 360
  • Hands-on familiarity with multiple e-billing vendor systems and outside counsel guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with an aptitude for working with numbers
  • Ability to present complex data and analysis and produce ad hoc reports
  • Experience with Iolta accounts a plus
  • Miscellaneous administrative tasks
  • Special projects or other tasks as determined by supervisor(s)

All tasks are to be performed in a professional manner as the position requires access to privileged information. It is expected that the information will be maintained with the necessary degree of confidentiality.

The ideal candidate will possess the following personal characteristics:

  • 3+ years of billing experience in a law firm or similar professional environment with e-billing experience
  • Effectively communicate with attorneys, paralegals, and clients
  • Detail-oriented with a customer service approach to problem-solving
  • Multi-tasks, uses time efficiently and maintains a professional demeanor in high-stress situations
  • Anticipates work needs and organizes work flow
  • Follows through with minimal direction and takes initiative
  • Flexibility to work light overtime when deadlines warrant it
  • Treats others with respect and contributes to a positive team environment
  • Ability to prioritize appropriately
